in the history of the u.k. with all the prime minister's she has worked with how has that impacted her as a queen from your knowledge? >>guest: she has a vast store of information. she does not have the ideological filter. she takes things and and why she is so valuable to the people who come to her for confidentiality. prime ministers meet with her for one hour every week but others, she has the wisdom as well as a body of knowledge and an extraordinary memory for things. when public officials come to her to ask for guidance, they always remark, even if they are skeptical with a private audience, and nobody else is in the room to record which gives them freedom to say what is on their mind. harold wilson, a labor prime minister in the '70s is hard to say but she had an affectionate relationship with him. the private secretary said he considered her to be a very astute diplomat of the political scene. she can size people up and understand the new ones of a political situation. these things have given her a valuable role. not just a figurehead but a range of duties that people don't fully apprecia

it now. uke messer,tative lo thank you for being on "newsmakers." let me turn to our reporters for a bit of a rapid conversation. he is the freshman president for public and, coming into the 113th congress. who are they? >> they are a very diverse bunch. there are some people who are new to politics. but a lot of them are long lines of luke messer, who have been in government at many levels. they're able to see a little bit more context than some of the fire breathing -- for lack of a better term. it will be interesting. it is not that much smaller of the freshman class, and there are fewer republicans, but they seem to be oriented toward public policy and any number of ways. >> is indicating he would support speaker boehner for the 130th congress. are they going to get along in this group -- 113th congress? are they going to get along in this group? >> there were a lot of problems during the debt negotiations. democrats had to step up and vote for the proposal to give it to pass. that is a fair question for this freshman class. are they going to support speaker boehner, or are they not?

around the u.k. so i could see how she interacted with people. in addition to interviewing people there were lots of other ways that i developed my sense of who she is and how she goes about her job. >> was she aware that you are writing this book? >> she was, yes. she was aware. i initially approached the palace when i got the assignment from random house and wrote a very polite letter and got a very polite letter back saying we appreciate your interest and a lot of people are interested in writing about the queen. we have a hard time choosing somebody but fortunately i had a group of people who helped enormously with the diana book. some of them had worked for her. some of them were her relatives and they became my advocates. and went to her senior officials at buckingham palace and said yes she's an american, but she has a body of work that shows that she writes fair and balanced books and it would be a serious book. it would be a theory -- thorough book. after six months they briefed the senior press people and she gave them permission to give me their cooperation which was ve
